What is the most deserving cause and how do I find it?
The most deserving people of your help are the needy in your close family and relatives, and then your neighbors.  Make a sincere effort to reach them before looking for external opportunities, which are listed in short as below

  • Identify the Organizations, which work on the cause close to your heart.
  • Check if there is any group or organization in your local community
  • You might already be giving money to some organization, check if you can make a difference by volunteering beyond just giving money
  • If you are new, now is the right time to jump-start. Write to us for any questions/help

What do I have to do as a volunteer?
You can opt for a cause that demands the skills you possess. If you enjoy interacting with people and have a knack for teaching then consider volunteering for teaching what you are best at. It can be anything starting from the most happening computer subjects to self-sufficiency programs like taking tailoring classes or any other similar programs. If you enjoy out doors, then you can participate with those organize out door health camps and so on. There are several other advantages of volunteering for something you already do at your work place or you enjoy as a hobby.

How do I fit voluntary activities in my already hectic schedule?
It is very important to understand ,what we are gaining from participating in a social upliftment cause. Once we realize how significant and rewarding all our efforts could be, it will help us give correct priority for the cause we want to support.

  • There are several ways one can contribute from the comfort of their house.
  • One such option is virtual volunteering which is explained in more detail as in the next question.
  • Look out of organizations where you can spend time on a weekend day
  • The easiest and most convenient way of volunteering is to stay well informed about the activities happening around us and spread the message. That way you will be creating more opportunities for others.
  • Try to volunteer as a small group along with your friends or relatives. You can stand in for each other if there is a need and keep yourself going.
  • You can combine your goals with the organization you want to with. If you want to improve your communication and interacting skills, you can volunteer for teaching and so on.
  • Make sure to start out slowly than to commit yourself to a schedule you can't or don't want to fulfill.

What is Virtual volunteering?
If you have computer access and the necessary skills, many organizations now offer the opportunity to do volunteer work over the computer. This might take the form of giving free legal advice, writing articles, developing website for those organizations which do not have one,  gathering information for a cause or simply keeping in contact with a shut-in who has e-mail. This sort of volunteering might be well suited to you if you have limited time, no transportation, or a physical disability that precludes you from getting about freely. Virtual volunteering can also be a way for you to give time if you simply enjoy computers and want to employ your computer skills in your volunteer work.

Give voice to your heart through your giving and volunteering!  Bring your heart and your sense of humor to your volunteer service, along with your enthusiastic spirit, which in itself is a priceless gift. What you'll get back will be immeasurable!
